Manager of Grants and Faculty Accounting

Duties and Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities are 1) to ensure that financial accounting, budgeting, monitoring, reporting and management of gifts, grants and contracts for Executive Education are accurate, timely, and in accordance with Harvard University and Kennedy School accounting principles and procedures; 2) to ensure that faculty payments are managed in a timely and accurate manner; and 3) to assist with financial analysis and other projects.

 

Position Responsibilities

For Grant Accounting: Prepare pre-award documentation packages; invoice and monitor funds received and expenses incurred; allocate appropriately staff/faculty efforts to restricted funds in a timely manner; assist Program Directors of sponsored programs with budget development; enter budget data into the KSG budget system and the University database. Review and reconcile monthly variances to budget; prepare periodic and final reports and other required post-award documents, including ad hoc analyses as needed. Serve as the primary financial liaison to Principal Investigators and Program Directors involved with Executive Education's sponsored funds. Understand and communicate, to Program Directors, the Finance team and others as needed, the terms and restrictions of all restricted funds. Monitor financial results of restricted funds relative to budgets and to fund restrictions. Maintain complete and accurate files related to restricted funds. For Faculty Accounting: Oversee faculty effort accounting; ensure that all faculty effort is captured accurately according to policy and specific compensation agreements; track and manage faculty agreements; work collaboratively with Financial Associate and with Kennedy School's Office of Financial Services to review and reconcile faculty payments. Other responsibilities: Assist in monthly and year end closings; update and track key financial data relevant to Executive Education; contribute to the periodic review of Executive Education financial processes to identify and propose process improvements; assist the Director of Financial Operations with financial analysis and other projects. Additional responsibilities from time to time as needed.

  

Required Education, Experience and Skills

Basic: BA/BS required; 5-7 years of financial experience. Knowledge of sponsored research accounting principles and practices applicable to higher education required. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft applications; excellent Excel skills required. Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately, to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to achieve results in a timely and accurate manner. Additional: Strong accounting and financial analysis skills. Detail oriented person with strong financial, communication, and organizational skills. Excellent interpersonal skills required.
