City Councilor-at-Large Sam Yoon had to eat some crow this past week, as New York City Councilman John Liu came calling at the East Ocean City Restaurant to settle the gentleman’s wager the two made on this year’s Super Bowl. Since Liu’s New York Giants bested Yoon’s New England Patriots 17-14, Yoon — joined by City Council colleagues and Asian American community leaders — treated Liu to a dinner of Cantonese lobster. Eleven-year-old Marquis and 5-year-old Deaveon are two of the children between the ages of 4 and 16 pictured in the 2008 Heart Gallery, a striking collection of portraits of adoptable children in the Commonwealth’s foster care system. The traveling gallery was organized by the Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange Inc. (MARE) to raise awareness. Last week Mayor Thomas M. Menino (right) convened his Foreclosure Intervention Team (FIT) in a newly-created “war room.” The FIT consists of many city agencies and departments who deal with issues surrounding foreclosure and abandonment, including Boston Police, Inspectional Services, Department of Neighborhood Development, Public Health Commission, Corporation Counsel, Public Works, Transportation and Public Property. The first focus of the FIT has been the Hendry Street neighborhood, a small area in Dorchester that has been ravaged by foreclosures and abandoned properties in the wake of a national subprime loan crisis. Trombonist Fred Wesley, a legendary sideman who played with the likes of James Brown and Maceo Parker, rocks the house at the Berklee Performance Center last Thursday evening. Wesley performed with Berklee’s Music of James Brown Ensemble, a group of students dedicated to Brown’s back catalogue. (Tony Irving photo)
