Tomeeka Farrington

Tomeeka Farrington, principal and founder of Spotlight Communications, has been selected as one of the Boston Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” honorees for 2007, the paper’s 10th annual program recognizing Greater Boston’s emerging business leaders. Farrington will receive her honor tonight at the Tenth Annual 40 Under 40 Awards Celebration at the Boston Marriott Copley Place Hotel.

“I am truly grateful for this award and to be considered one of 40 of the city’s next generation of business leaders,” said Farrington, 30. “This year’s honorees are so talented and civic-minded that it is an honor to be amongst them.”

Chosen from a field of more than 250 nominees, the honorees come from a broad spectrum in the Boston business community and represent the talent and commitment that helps drive the regional economy.

Now in its fourth year, Spotlight Communications specializes in public relations, marketing, digital communications and event planning for both private and nonprofit clients, with a niche in real estate development, commercial construction and technology.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, the BBJ also cited Farrington’s personal commitment to community service, particularly her efforts to encourage urban youth to consider media careers.

“As a result of Tomeeka’s mentorship, our teens have learned so much about how media impacts the world they live in, and more importantly, she’s conveyed these messages to them using examples that were relevant to them, which no one had ever done before,” said Andrea Howard, executive director of the West End House Boys & Girls Club of Allston-Brighton.

A graduate of Boston College and American University, Farrington holds a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in broadcast journalism and public affairs. She chairs the Marketing and Public Relations Committee for the Emerging Leaders Program Alumni Executive Council at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, and serves on the board of the National Black Leadership Initiative on Cancer, based at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
