Celebrates 2nd Annual Spirit of Roxbury
The Yawkey Club of Roxbury opens its doors to the community for the 2nd annual Spirit of Roxbury event from noon- 4 p.m. Parents, youth and business leaders are invited to join the Club in celebrating the strength of the community and the Club’s 98th year of service. The Spirit of Roxbury, which coincides with the national Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids, is free and will feature food, fun and Club tours. The Club is located at 115 Warren St.

Celebration

South End Artists
to Open Studios
The 21st Annual South End Open Studios will be held Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16 from 11:00AM until 6:00PM each day. Over 250 artists working in a wide range of media will welcome the public to their studios in Boston’s historic South End. Garden Day Festival
New England Wild
Flower Society premieres a Gardeners Day Festival from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Horticulture experts give talks on the hour for the gardening public. Bring your toughest gardening questions to the “Plant Doctor” with office hours throughout the day, and attend gardening mini-seminars, all included with the regular Garden admission fee for adults of $7. Rain or shine, meet Paul Tukey, Laura Eisener, Greg Lowenberg and horticulture and plant conservation stars ready for “plant talk.” Take a guided tour at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. and walk the 11 destination gardens of the ART GOES WILD: Innovation with Native Plants exhibit by W. Back to School Jam
The annual event is being held in Mission Hill for the first time this year, and will feature a new health aspect not found in past Back to School Events. The event will feature entertainment by Jam’n 94.5, food and refreshments, and raffles with prizes ranging from backpacks filled with school supplies to bicycles. Also, licensed pharmacists from MassMedLine (1-866-633-1617), Mass. College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences’s state-wide prescription information hotline, will provide free asthma screenings, follow-up, and monitoring. Boston Folk Festival
The 10th Annual WUMB 91.9 FM Boston Folk Festival, Boston’s premier folk music showcase, will be featuring the best local folk musicians performing live on three stages, including an outdoor field stage overlooking Boston Harbor and the JFK Library and an indoor coffeehouse stage. Festival-goers enjoy free children’s activities, a craft bazaar and international food court. The Stories Behind the Stones: The Great Women of Boston
Join guide Al Maze as he recounts the stories of some of the most celebrated and fascinating women of 19th and 20th century Boston buried at Forest Hills. Kennedy Library Forum:
Exploring the Space Frontier
On the 45th anniversary of President Kennedy’s Rice University speech about going to the moon, NASA Astronaut and Needham, MA native, Sunita Williams will share her experience on being a crew member of the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle. While on the International Space Station, Williams set a world record for women with four spacewalks totaling 29 hours and 17 minutes. Williams has logged a total of 195 days in space. This forum will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Stephen Smith Center at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Columbus Point, Boston. Free and open to the public.
