Lowell Folk Festival
Free. Downtown Lowell, MA, July 27-29. The Revolving Museum will host a series of workshops, performances, culminating in a public artwork that will be illuminated for night-time viewing and activation. Workshops Include: Make Art Lanterns that will be on display at night as part of the Folk Festival; Make artwork with Community Teamwork’s Artship Enterprise, an interactive art mobile designed and created by artists Nora Valdez and Persi Narvaez; Transform a Mill Girl Dress with mixed media and celebrate a part of Lowell’s important textile past; Paint a Carnival Side-Show Banner that focuses on important positive changes in our neighborhoods, country, and world; Be a Movie Star and perform in your first short movie that will be screened as part of the ARTventures program. www.LowellFolk

Addicted to Failure: Exporting the Drug War Overseas
First Church of Jamaica Plain Unitarian Universalist, Parish Hall, 6 Eliot St., Jamaica Plain. This event is free and open to the public. 7 p.m. The Jamaica Plain Forum presents Sanho Tree, international expert and advocate of fundamental drug policy reform. The “War on Drugs,” both at home and abroad, is failing to address the root causes of the drug problem: racism and poverty.
