VerBaLizAtiOn presents...
AFRO-CINEMA
Boston’s longest-running open mic spot presents another evening of important film showing, followed by a brief discussion and then the open mic thereafter. Film of the Evening: “BAMBOOZLED” - directed by Spike Lee. Dark, biting satire of the television industry, focusing on Ivy-League educated black writer Pierre Delacroix at a major network. Frustrated that his ideas for a “Cosby Show”-esque take on the black family has been rejected by network brass, Delacroix devises an outlandish scheme: reviving the minstrel show. The hook: instead of white actors in black face, the show stars black actors in even blacker face. The show becomes an instant smash, but with the success also comes repercussions for all involved. Starring: Damon Wayans, Jada Pinkett Smith, Savion Glover, Tommy Davidson & Michael Rapaport. The Museum of the National Center of Afro-American Artists, 300 Walnut Ave., Roxbury. New starting time - 6:30 p.m. SHARP!! Free to the public! Hosted by VCR. For information, contact VCR at 617-480-7663. For directions visit www.ncaaa.org.
