Twist and Shout along the Charles River
The 28th Cambridge River Festival
The 28th annual Cambridge River Festival is back to kick-off summer along scenic Memorial Drive between Western Ave. and JFK St., noon- 6 p.m. This year’s theme, Twist and Shout, celebrates the arts loudly and proudly along one of Cambridge’s most idyllic spots, the Charles River. Presented by the Cambridge Arts Council, the Cambridge River Festival brings a rich array of culture and arts to over 100,000 people of all ages. Enjoy a day of music, dance, poetry, visual art, hands-on art activities, international food, and handmade arts & crafts for sale. The multiple stages feature a bevy of amazing artists, including an exciting line-up of talent from The Regattabar (The Charles Hotel, Harvard Square), the leading jazz club in the New England area. Sculpture Walk
Join the Forest Hills Educational Trust on Sunday, June 16 and July 22 at 4 p.m. for a guide tour through some highlights of Victorian sculpture and the Trust’s Contemporary Sculpture Path located with Forest Hill’s Cemetery. Featuring work by renowned 19th century artist Daniel Chester French; contemporary sculpture by Leslie Wilcox, Chris Frost, Danielle Krcmar and many others. Admission is $9. Lights Out
Whittier Street Health Center (Whittier) is proud to announce that it will present “Lights Out,” a play authored by local playwright Haywood Fennell, Sr., during this year’s annual Healthier Families: Men’s Health Summit at the Campus Center, University of Massachusetts in Boston. The play features Oscar, a young man preparing for his release from prison and the health care advice that he received from his friends. Following the reading there will be a dialogue on HIV and prevention. Moreover, the play will highlight awareness on another dynamic of HIV, and the importance of education. Whittier Street Health Center Hosts Innovative Health Summit for Men and their Families
The summit will feature engaging and informative activities to present a holistic approach to health, fitness, stress management, access to care, and behavioral health, as well as providing entertainment. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Campus Center of UMASS-Boston. The Summit is a free event and is open to the community by registration. UMASS-Boston is easily accessible by the Red Line. An anticipated 500 people will be in attendance. New England Fine Arts Fair
The New England Fine Arts Fair, the region’s only juried exhibition of its kind, recurs at Bunker Hill Community College, 250 New Rutherford Ave., Boston. The fair was created to bring artists and patrons together in a single venue. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet artists who are selling their original fine arts or fine crafts. Items will include paintings, jewelry, ceramics, hand painted silks, stained glass, sculpture, drawings and more. The fair will take place RAIN or SHINE. Engaging Youth in Your Organization
The Neighborhood Forum presents.... A Training for Community Assets and Residents from 6-8 p.m. at USES’ Harriet Tubman House, 566 Columbus Ave., South End, Boston. The goal of this training will be to explore strategies that increase youth involvement in community organizations. Topics include exploring the youth development approach, adultism, busting barriers for engaging youth, projects and programs that support engaging youth, and recruitment and retention of youth. Double-header Part II: Learn about Mass Mentoring Partnership at Fenway!

Topic: How to establish a good working relationship with your homicide detective, DA prosecutor and appropriate family advocates. 6-8:30 p.m., Great Hall, Codman Square. Book Signing — “Nathan’s Journey”
“Nathan’s Journey” is the story of a young boy’s struggle with autism and the help he received along the way. At age three when he was first diagnosed, Nathan was unable to communicate. The book traces Nathan’s progress through special needs school to a time when he becomes class president and plays basketball for a local team. Book signing is at 5:30 p.m. at Uphams Corner Public Library, 500 Columbia Rd., Dorchester.

The National Park Service Announces a Summer Solstice Walking Tour of Franklin Park
The National Park Service/Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site celebrates the summer solstice with a walking tour of Franklin Park at 6:30 p.m. This 90-minute walk entitled “A Short Walk on a Long Day” will look at the design for this 500- plus acre park intended to offer city dwellers a taste of the country in the urban environment of Boston. The tour will meet at the Resting Place picnic tables across from the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, a short distance inside Franklin Park’s Forest Hills Entrance. It will be held rain or shine and is free and open to the public. No advance reservations are necessary.
