POSITION SUMMARY

Community Catalyst is a national not-for-profit consumer advocacy organization working to build a health justice movement. The Legal Assistant provides research, programmatic and administrative support for the Community Catalyst Legal Action (CCLA) program. The purpose of CCLA is to develop and implement a coordinated national legal advocacy strategy to achieve change in the health care system for the benefit of consumers. CCLA plans to use impact litigation to remedy wrongdoing by private health care institutions, in collaboration with one or more major national law firms. This is a half-time position, with some flexibility in scheduling of work hours, that reports to the CCLA General Counsel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Conduct fact and legal research as assigned

·       Collect and organize research materials

·       Analyze and summarize fact research for use in litigation

·       Help build and maintain relationships with law firm partners  

·       Draft memoranda, letters and other documents for attorney review

·       Draft deposition summaries

·       Prepare court documents for filing

·       Coordinate service of pleadings and filing with courts

·       Organize and maintain CCLA litigation files

·       Schedule CCLA litigation meetings

·       Provide general administrative support

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor’s degree and minimum one year professional experience

·       Strong analytical capability

·       Strong research and writing skills

·       Ability and willingness to take initiative

·       Highly organized and detail-oriented

·       Ability to see work through to completion

·       Strong interpersonal skills

·       Basic knowledge of Westlaw or Lexis preferred

·       Prior experience in a law-related office setting preferred
