Communications Manager

POSITION SUMMARY 

Community Catalyst is a national not-for-profit consumer advocacy organization working to build a health justice movement. We seek a Communications Manager to support Community Catalyst’s public information and communication strategies, oversees systems that promote the organization’s visibility and enhance public understanding of Community Catalyst and its health reform work, and plays a key role in “translating” complex health policy issues for broad audiences. 

Responsibilities:

·      Assist in development and implementation of all communications activity, including participation in overarching strategy development, communications structure and protocols, messaging and implementation plans.

·      Oversee a streamlined system for managing internal and external communications, including media coverage and publications development.

·      Conduct media relations, including cultivation and maintenance of reporter relationships; execute strategies around report releases; execute press conferences and briefings; write press releases, op-eds, statements and talking points; and triage press calls.

·      Coordinate Internet strategy: content management, Web marketing, and integration of Internet strategy with all program and public information strategies.

·      Work with staff to provide state-based campaign communications assistance.

·      Work with staff to develop and write reports and communications products, including providing assistance in translating complex health policy materials for broader audiences.

·      Manage preparation and dissemination of cohesive organizational and project materials and manage contracts with printers, graphic/layout designers, etc.

·      Manage use of and staff training for communications systems and procedures, including contact management and online marketing tools.

·      Develop communications component of funder reports and other information provided to relevant stakeholders, including quarterly reports to the Board.

·      Supervise communications associate and interns.

·      Organize and execute events.

·      Undertake related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS 

·      Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, and able to manage many tasks simultaneously.

·      Strategic communications experience (minimum of 1-3 years), including demonstrated ability to secure effective press coverage.

·      Journalism and/or public policy writing experience (preferably 2-4 years) for lay audiences and policymakers.

·      Strong interest in health policy issues with policy experience preferred.

·      Strong background in website content management.

·      Ability to manage several projects at once and respond to tight timelines.

·      Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people in a variety of settings.

·      Excellent writing and editing skills.

·      Publication development skills.

·      Collaborative team player.

·      Understanding and familiarity with grassroots activism and consumer protection perspective, ideally grounded in a commitment to social justice.

·      Bilingual/Bicultural background desirable.

Salary Range:

$50,000-60,000
