Be Prepared

The health of your baby is largely a product of your health. There are things you can do to help your baby even before you’re pregnant. It just takes time and some preparation.

Get a pre-pregnancy checkup.

Check for high blood pressure
and diabetes.

Talk to your doctor about medicines you take, including herbal and over-the-counter drugs.

Take a multivitamin with 400 micrograms of folic acid each day before pregnancy.

Eat healthy foods.

Maintain a healthy weight and exercise.
Don’t smoke, drink or use
illegal drugs.
